Michal Frankl

Michal was one of the youngest of Rachel Frankl’s children, born in 1770 in the village of Zelec. We don’t know very much about his early life. We do know he married Theresa Brand and that they lived in house number 26 in the village of Vlastislav. Since his first child Abraham was born in 1804, I guess he probably didn’t marry until in his early thirties probably because it took the family that long to satidfy all the rules of the Familianten. He is recorded as being a butcher and being Jewish and a Cohain, I assume that was a fully trained kosher butcher known as a Shochet.

Michal and Theresa had three sons, Abraham, Jakob and Joachim. The records tell us that both Abraham and Jakob became Shochtim and I know in later life Joachim and his wife ran a glove making business.

Unfortunately, we have not been able to find any information about when either Michal or Theresa died, but we do know that Jakob and Joachim are recorded as also living in Vlastislav with their wives and children. I think it is reasonable to assume that they both died in Vlastislav and would have been buried in the nearest Jewish cemetery. As far as I am aware there was no cemetery in Vlastislav, so we think they probably would have been buried in the Jewish Cemetery near Třebivlice. This cemetery now lies in the middle of a very lovely vineyard owned by the wine producer Johann W.
