Třebivlice/Vlastislav

Třebivlice is a small town lying at southern edge of the Bohemian Uplands about half way between the larger towns of Most and Litoměřice. Vlastislav is a very small village a few kilometres to the North East of Třebivlice. The Jewish cemetery that serves both places is in a field about a kilometre to the East of Třebivlice town centre. Today this small cemetery is surrounded by fields of grape vines on land owned by a local Winery called Johann W. Johann W is owned by a very wealthy local industrialist who made a fortune from brown coal mining and decided to invest in the Winery to help provide alternative industry and employment for Třebivlice. This includes a large attractive wine making centre, with a tasting facility, dining rooms, terraces and a concert area. At the other end of the town there is also an accomodation block. These facilities were used in July 2023 to host a Frankl Family gathering.

There was a small Jewish community in the area with a working synagogue in Třebivlice from 1860 which was then taken over by the Hussite Church. In Vlastislav a prayer room existed in the 18th C.

People

Michal – Rachel’s son moved to Vlastislav and worked as a Schochet (kosher butcher) – his sons Jakob and Joachim were born there and they stayed living here after they were married. Jakob was also a Schochet, their children were born there as well. Jakob died suddenly in 1870 and the family moved away from the village after that, Alzbeta probably to Louny first and later to Teplice. Joachim to Litoměřice.
